Join us as we gather at IndyInk for A Point Of Departure and get set for taking off. BirdSeed is proud to present two artists that will be our visual tour guides on the journey that will take place.

Victor Escobedo is an emerging artist here in Denver, his works are involving an aspect of the infinite and the cosmos, a thought provoking artist and plenty will be taken from his works.

Summer Hatfield is an established artist from Portland, OR. She will be showing new works here for the show, her work is playfully inspired by conceptual relativity, filled with depth and mystery yet visually striking imagery to stimulate any adventure.

Featured review in the Onion's AVclub

The first song off Robin Walker’s Oma Minor, “Where I Went Wrong,” is a lonely, reverb-drenched heartbreaker. Its breathless vocals and dynamically strummed ukulele detail a long detour that leads our protagonist away from home. When she returns, life has abandoned her; all parties have moved on without a trace, leaving her to contemplate her seclusion.

This could be an analogy for the album itself, which creates a sense of being adrift at sea: Oma Minor begins in surprised isolation, runs into a dreamy calm, hits turbulence, and finally finds itself washed ashore, devoid of a future or a past. Its songs are about being left behind, and the bitter sweetness of fading love.....

[HEADPHONE MASTERPIECE] Opening your debut EP with a sampled snippet from 2001: A Space Odyssey proclaiming, “My God, it’s full of stars!” is one bold, audacious move. It’s a claim that’s damn hard to live up to: The scene is set, expectations are suddenly sky-high, and you come off as just a wee bit pretentious. But after fully absorbing You Have to Hold On, the first set of recorded material from local experimental pop band Problems?, I see where the band is coming from: The quote is ambitious, and bold, and absurd. But so is the concept of a perfect debut record.

You Have to Hold On is just that, a nearly flawless 25 minutes of bent, fractured indie pop that feels miles removed from most of the stale compositions that give the genre a bad name. The album represents Problems?, which has since expanded beyond a duo, though Cory McCulloch (Xiu Xiu, Ten in the Swear Jar) played bass on one track and lent production assistance. That so much sound comes from just two people—multi-instrumentalists and singers Judge Bean and Ashley Mudra—is a shock at first, but it’s also comforting to know that this type of forward-thinking music is still being produced in houses across the city.

To my ear, Problems? has a close kinship to the Xiu Xiu circa 2004’s Fabulous Muscles, at least musically. You hear standard pop instruments here—guitar, organ, banjo—but it’s the way they are used and augmented, with blasts of noise and rhythm and static in the background, that makes these songs so thrilling. Opener “KakersX2C” mutates into at least three different parts over the course of seven minutes, with just a bit of forlorn guitar squall in the background to hold it together. Both Bean and Mudra sing, repeating things like “In my dreams I sleep with you,” before a huge, spiraling crescendo and pretty banjo-led outro as Mudra coos “You love me, you love me.”

Bean mentioned to me that he spent two years endlessly writing and reworking the EP, and you can hear the care put into each and every figure; though You Have to Hold On consists of just five songs, it’s more assured and varied than pretty much any local release this year. The only track that ever settles in one place, the gorgeous goth waltz “Death Machine,” finds a slow rhythm and then just builds toward oblivion, with the phrase “Your hands feel so good in my hair,” looped and eventually belted out by Mudra in an impassioned moment of clarity. It’s one of the most gorgeous refrains I’ve heard all year, and the sign of a truly ambitious band attempting—and almost attaining—perfection. Kubrick would be proud.

"For most of my life, I’ve viewed the ukulele as a joke instrument. Popularized by people like Don Ho, Tiny Tim and my third grade music teacher, the four-stringed miniature always seemed like a silly substitute for a guitar. Now, however, the little lute’s renewed hipness is making me reconsider my prejudice. The kids in Brooklyn can’t get enough of the uke, Jake Shimabukoro wows audiences around the world, and locally, Danielle Ate the Sandwich is using the instrument for good, not evil.

But if anyone can truly convince me to embrace the ukulele, it’s singer-songwriter and one-woman band Robin Walker. Playing an electrified uke — through pedals and all — while playing a kick drum and crooning heartily, the young songstress pulls unprecedented sounds (and soul!) from the much-maligned axe.

But Walker’s music is about much more than her instrument. it's been a minute. Recent news: the Megahouse show went really well. It was a good time had by all. I showed a new 7 piece series called Rest For The Birds, i am posting few pics from the series, but plan on showing them again (maybe, on the 2nd. if not. let me know if you're interested. 25$ single panel and 115$ for the whole 7 piece set. it's a tilted story about 7 days of creation and dont really want to break up the set, thats why so cheap...i do value my art.)
and Denver if you get a chance to see Bury My Bones around town check em out a great duo of sound. I know they will be playing this Saturday along with BirdSeed's very good friend, Robin Walker for the Titwrench Presents Surfacing show.
