The first song off Robin Walker’s Oma Minor, “Where I Went Wrong,” is a lonely, reverb-drenched heartbreaker. Its breathless vocals and dynamically strummed ukulele detail a long detour that leads our protagonist away from home. When she returns, life has abandoned her; all parties have moved on without a trace, leaving her to contemplate her seclusion.
This could be an analogy for the album itself, which creates a sense of being adrift at sea: Oma Minor begins in surprised isolation, runs into a dreamy calm, hits turbulence, and finally finds itself washed ashore, devoid of a future or a past. Its songs are about being left behind, and the bitter sweetness of fading love.....
